Couch Match Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 September 2026

Couch Match (“the app”) is made by Fabio Oliveira (“we”). This page explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

Anonymous account. The app creates an anonymous account the first time it opens, so your choices survive a reinstall and can be shared in a lobby. No email address, password or phone number is asked for. The account is a random identifier; it is not linked to your name unless you type one.

Profile choices. Whether you watch films, series or both, your age band, your preferred language, and the display name you type when you join a lobby.

Your swipes. Which titles you liked, passed, marked as seen or want to watch, and the rating you gave them. This is what the recommendations are built from, and what a lobby compares to find a match.

Lobbies. The lobbies you create or join, the PIN of each one, and the votes cast inside them. Your display name and your votes are visible to the other members of the same lobby.

Aggregate statistics. How many people liked each title, computed across all users. These numbers are not linked to individual accounts.

What we do not collect

The app shows no advertising and sells nothing, so there is no advertising identifier and no payment data. We do not collect your email, contacts, precise location, photos, or any audio.

Permissions

Camera. Only used when you choose “Scan QR code” to join a lobby. The camera reads the code on a friend’s screen; nothing is recorded or uploaded.

Third parties

• Supabase hosts our database and authentication (servers in the EU).
• TMDB (The Movie Database) provides title information and poster images. Posters are loaded from TMDB’s image servers, which see your IP address as any web request does. Title searches are relayed through our server; TMDB does not receive your account identifier.

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone else.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept while your anonymous account exists. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it discards the local copy; to remove the server copy, follow the steps on Delete your data. Lobbies and their votes are deleted with the account that hosted them.

Children

Couch Match is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
